Hysteroscopic Polypectomy
Uterine polyps or endometrial polyps are the results of an overgrowth of cells in the uterine lining. While the polyps usually aren’t cancerous, some can eventually turn into cancer or cause other issues, such as irregular or heavy menstrual bleeding. It’s also thought that polyps may contribute to infertility.
Hysteroscopic endometrial polypectomy uses a hysteroscope, which is a thin, lighted telescope-like device. It’s inserted through the vagina into the uterus after dilating the cervix and projects images of the uterus onto a monitor. Small instruments are inserted through the hysteroscope to remove each polyp.
Fertility rates improved for women who have had difficulty becoming pregnant due to polyps.
