Follicular Studies Procedure

Follicular studies involve a series of ultrasound examinations to evaluate a woman’s ovulation and fertility. They include monitoring the growth and development of the follicles in the ovaries, which contain the eggs, and tracking changes in the thickness of the uterine lining. Follicular studies can help identify potential issues with ovulation, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and can guide treatment for infertility and dosage adjustment of medication if needed. In addition, this allows tracking the growth and development of the follicles and identifying the optimal time for ovulation induction or timed intercourse.

Follicular Studies Procedure
A follicular study typically involves several ultrasound scans for a menstrual cycle, starting around day 9 or 10 of the mature cycle and continuing until ovulation occurs. The average diameter of the dominant follicular is about 18 to 22mm before ovulation. The scans themselves typically take about 5 minutes to complete.
