Assisted hatching is an advanced scientific technique that involves a laser to thin the outer layer of the egg (called the zona). In some cases, particularly in older women, it is thought that the thickness of the outer shell (zona) can prevent implantation of the embryo. If the embryo can hatch out of the shell more easily, it may have a better chance of implanting inside the uterus.
Women who are 37 yrs and above , had a previous unsuccessful IVF treatment cycle, are those who are suitable for Assisted Hatching in next cycle.
In older women the implantation rate is less. To enhance implantation rate assisted hatching is performed. In this method a hole is made in zona pellucida of the embryo using diode laser beam.
