After 2 to 3 weeks patient will be asked to come to the clinic to check E2, LH levels if they are satisfactory stimulation will be done to develop more number of eggs. The injectable gonodotrophins are given over a period of 8 to 12 days. Progress of the ovarian follicles is assessed by transvaginal ultrasound on alternate days. Blood samples are also drawn to measure E2 Levels. When the ovarian follicles mature to the maximum size patient is given HCG Injection for inducing ovulation. If the estrogen levels are not satisfactory, or follicular growth is not optimum, treatment will be stopped.
This is a procedure for producing more no. of eggs. After 10-15 days the patients will be asked to come to the clinic to check the E2, LH levels. If they are satisfactory, stimulation will be done to develop more number of eggs. This enables more chances for pregnancy. The hormonal drugs are given over a period of eight to twelve days. During this procedure the growth of the ovarian follicles is assessed by means of ultra sound scanning. Blood samples are also drawn to measure the estrogen and LH levels. If the estrogen and LH levels are not satisfactory and the follicular growth is not optimum, treatment will be stopped. During the process of super ovulation transvaginal ultra sound examination will be done.
This is not a painful procedure. The patient may experience some.vaginal discharge as transmission gel is used on the vaginal probe. It is very important for the patients to come to the clinic in time in the morning in order get the lab results made available to the physician for reviewing the results early in the afternoon. By this the exact date and time will be determined for harvesting the eggs. When the ovarian follicles mature to the maximum size the patient will be given HCG injection for inducing ovulation. Eggs will be retrieved before the ovulation takes place.
Medications
Injectable gonodotrophins : Menotrophin HMG or Follitropinbeta (FSH). Injection of these hormones lead to systemic increase ofFSH results in Stimulation of ovaries to produce more number of oocytes.
Side effects: Some times abdominal distention, discomfort, and bloating Sensation, mood swings, fatigue, restlessness. Which is usually released soon after follicular aspiration.
