Egg Retrieval

It is done under light general anesthesia using an ultrasound probe 35 – 37 hours after HCG Injection. The eggs are aspirated along with follicular fluid into a test tube and send to the laboratory for examination by an embryologist under a stereo microscope. The quality of the oocytes is assessed (Maturity). This will help to decide when to inseminate the oocytes.

* The patient has to stay for 3 hours in the clinic and can go home after egg retrieval and attend normal work.

* The patient should not eat anything seven hours prior to the egg retrieval since general anesthesia will be administered .

* Recovery from this anaesthesia is very fast and rapid. Nausea is very little. A vaginal probe is introduced into the vagina and the eggs are retrieved with a needle inserted through the vaginal wall under the guidance of ultra sound.
